Because fleas are laterally flattened and mounted on slides, they are exceptionally well suited to digital photography, and it is possible to capture all important morphological features of each specimen. The following are representative sets of flea plates used for identification and comparison purposes. Black bars on photos are 1 mm. size standards.

We have tried to provide plates which include photos of males and females, with higher magnification of the male terminalia and female spermathecae. Thus far we have not yet attempted to illustrate key characters for the species, but we envision providing an extensive set of photographs for each species, which will be linked to the keys provided on this site as well as the current classification and the collection database. As the project progresses, we will also include extensive photos for type specimens.

The following are examples of some of our holdings. Our collection is more extensive and we intend to provide a more complete listing of species in the future. These photos are to give you an idea of our capability with this project.

Mouse-over the family at the left of the page, the species then pops out, then the genus, and click on that for the page.
